For the third consecutive year, ESG Now is responsible for the greenhouse gas emissions inventory of the South Summit Brazil, a global innovation event co-organized by the State Government of Rio Grande do Sul. In 2025, in addition to its climate monitoring role, the startup from Southern Brazil is innovating through a new initiative: promoting sustainable urban mobility via electric scooters, in partnership with micromobility company Whoosh.
The action includes 15 scooter docking points strategically distributed around Porto Alegre, mainly near public transportation hubs. The goal is to encourage participants to choose low-impact transportation, helping reduce the event’s overall carbon footprint.
“We wanted to encourage real behavior change,” says Elias Neto, CEO of ESG Now. “That’s why we combined our sustainability expertise with a practical and accessible mobility solution, allowing us to accurately measure the emissions that are avoided”.
Each time a scooter is used, ESG Now’s platform records the data and calculates the amount of carbon emissions avoided. By the end of the three-day event, the startup expects to present a complete report on the impact of this initiative.
The idea started as a complementary activation by ESG Now. “We already monitor everything, from fugitive emissions from fire extinguishers and air conditioners to air travel. We wanted to show that it’s possible to have a positive impact outside the event as well,” Elias adds.
ESG Now also developed and operates the emissions management platform used at the event, a proprietary ERP focused on sustainability, which automates data collection and generates real-time reports. According to Elias, this year’s edition of the South Summit has already achieved concrete results:
- A 31% reduction in emissions through the replacement of fossil fuel-powered equipment with electric alternatives.
- A 7% decrease in waste generation compared to the previous edition.
